Damru

"Isheeta's voice inspired poetry, ignited dreams and left the ear wanting more."
  - TIMES OF INDIA

“Damaru” is a cross-over album that weaves together Indian folk-pop, classical, lounge, elektronika, and Rabindrasangeet (the music of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore) in an unprecedented manner through fusion singer, Isheeta Ganguly. Released with TIMES MUSIC in August 2010, “Damaru” features tracks arranged by renowned Bollywood composer Shantanu Moithra, Grammy award winning percussionist, Tanmoy Bose and NY based elektronika producer Phil Levy. It also features a special guest performance by actor John Abraham on “Bande Mataram” with the Tagore poem, “Where the Mind is Without Fear”. The “damaru”, a two headed hand-drum shaped like an hourglass, represents the primeval sound and rhythm from which the universe emerges and vibrates. The songs of Damaru are inspired by Ganguly’s cross-cultural flux and journey between dual worlds during her years of growing up with songs that represent themes of patriotism, universalism and love.
